It's the 2040s. Hogwarts has been under the reign of a new Head ever since the Final Battle way back in 2007 or whenever. This head has done a lot of reform work to Hogwarts. Instead of Houses, the students are now grouped into concentrations, which are kind of like majors. (I still need to decide the concentrations.) They are fields of study that the student will go most in-depth in. Because what you like as a first year and what you later want to do with your career will most likely not be the same, you have the option of changing your concentration in your third and fifth years. Whatever concentration you have in your fifth year will be the one you graduate with, and the one you receive most in-depth study in.
Almost all of the wizarding world is in a state of war and horror, and Hogwarts is one of the few safe places. They've started building underground to create room for the refugees that come. There are so many, they have to turn most of them away, but they allow students' families to stay. Although Hogwarts is now one of the greatest schools there is, it is an isolated bubble of safety in a wartorn world.
Those two plot thingies are just starting points. I'm still working everything out, of course, but the fact remains I have actually created a new site (and deleted my earlier rambling posts =P) and would love some admins, g-mods, and any other kind of helpers I can get. That's true, but I've had a LOT of experience (I don't even want to go into it!) with explaining an abnormal plot and getting people to apply anyway. Something like this, though admittedly out of the ordinary, would pretty much be a step down from "Well, see it's two thousand years in the future, and the world blew up, and then eventually these humans came back to life only they were kind of mutant, and they separated into different groups and now they're all fighting, and you can have special powers but..." etc, etc, etc. Imagine that going on for an hour. I'm serious.
But, yeah, my point is that since it's in the Harry Potter realm it will be relatively easy to explain to people. Note the word "relatively."
